Introduction to Housekeeping

An entry-level course designed to provide the knowledge and skills required for a room attendant or housekeeper to deliver a memorable guest experience. The course covers topics such as the appropriate use of cleaning agents and equipment, preparing rooms for guests, personal presentation, and providing a memorable guest experience.

What You Will Learn:

  • Effective Communication at Work: Exploring various aspects of workplace communication.
  • Housekeeping Operations: Introduction to hotel operations and organisation and Understanding staffing requirements within a hotel setting.
  • The Housekeeping Department: Defining the roles, responsibilities, personal presentation and professionalism of the housekeeping department.
  • Principles and Practices of Housekeeping: Defining cleaning and its significance, exploring equipment, and cleaning agents and the procedures for effective cleaning.
  • Guest Rooms: Understanding the various types of rooms, components of the rooms and addressing bed types and linen.
  • Housekeeping Trolley Management: Understanding the functions and importance of housekeeping trolleys and identifying essential supplies for efficient room cleaning.
  • Maintenance, Risks & Safe Work Practices: Emphasis on reporting maintenance issues promptly, safety protocols and practices to prevent injury or accidents.
  • Tasmanian Visitor Experience: Understanding the unique aspects of the Tasmanian tourism industry.
  • Working Effectively in Hospitality: Developing skills and strategies for effective work within the hospitality sector.
  • Working in a Team: Fostering collaboration and teamwork abilities essential in the hospitality field.

Course Fee

$200 per person including GST*

*This course fee is subsidised by grant funding from the Tasmanian Government. As part of the funding, the Tasmanian Government require VXT to report on employment outcomes. VXT will reach out to you after the course to gather data on your employment status when you completed the course, and if you were unemployed, did the course help you gain employment.

Enrolment Process

  1. Online: Available by clicking the Enrol Now button next to each course date. The online process will provide two options for payment (invoice and secure credit card). Should you wish to pay via direct deposit, please get in contact – courses@vxt.org.au

Enrolment Terms

  1. Payment of course fees (or deposit) is required to confirm enrolment and to hold a position.
  2. Cancellations up to 10 working days before the scheduled date will be accepted without penalty. Cancellations less than 10 working days may be subject to a 100% cancellation fee.
  3. VXT reserves the right to cancel the course 10 working days before the scheduled date if insufficient registrations are received. Any fees paid for cancelled courses will be refunded in full.
