For: Individuals entering the industry
An entry-level course designed to teach food and beverage attendants the practical skills and knowledge to deliver excellent service. The course covers topics such as preparing for service, providing table service, clearing meals and beverages, effective communication, personal presentation, and emphasises the importance of delivering a unique Tasmanian experience.

Course Content

  • Effective Hospitality Work: Understating a Food and Beverage Attendant Responsibilities, Personal Presentation, Teamwork and Effective Communication
  • Providing Service: Delve into the Principles and Methods of Good Customer Service
  • Preparing the Restaurant for Service: Understand how to Prioritise and Sequence Tasks, Pre-service Preparation and Restaurant Setup
  • Food and Beverage Advice to Customers: Learn how to Welcome Customers, Take Customer Orders, Set tables and make adjustments, Understand the sequence of service.
  • Serving and Clearing Meals: Develop skills in Plate Carrying, Table Clearing, Monitoring Service Flow and conducting Customer Satisfaction Checks.
  • Upselling and Cross-selling: Learn Techniques to Enhance Guest Experience
  • Serving and Clearing Alcoholic Beverages: Understanding Beverage Selection and Tray and Beverage Service
  • Teamwork in Service: Develop Teamwork skills in Relaying Information, End of Shift Duties, Handover and Service Review and Environmental Considerations.
  • Tasmanian Visitor Experience: Focus on enhancing the visitor experience in Tasmania.

Course Fee

$99 per person including GST*

*This course fee is subsidised by grant funding from the Tasmanian Government. As part of the funding, the Tasmanian Government require VXT to report on employment outcomes. VXT will reach out to you after the course to gather data on your employment status when you completed the course, and if you were unemployed, did the course help you gain employment.

  1. Online: Available by clicking the Enrol Now button next to each course date. The online process will provide three options for payment (invoice, secure credit card or tentative enrolment).

  3. Telephone: Call the team on 03 6387 7244 to register over the phone.

Enrolment Terms

  1. Payment of course fees (or deposit) is required to confirm enrolment and to hold a position.
  2. Cancellations up to 10 working days before the scheduled date will be accepted without penalty. Cancellations less than 10 working days may be subject to a 100% cancellation fee.
  3. VXT reserves the right to cancel the course 10 working days before the scheduled date if insufficient registrations are received. Any fees paid for cancelled courses will be refunded in full.
