Mentoring in Tourism and Hospitality Training Program

A supervisory and mentoring training program designed for Tasmanian Tourism and Hospitality Staff who manage apprentices, trainees and new entrants to the industry.

Training Program Overview

VXT has partnered with Registered Training Organisation, National Food Institute (RTO ID 3821) to deliver training in a mentoring program that has been put together specifically for the Tasmanian hospitality and tourism industries. The program consists of three units of competencies:

• BSBLDR411 – Demonstrate Leadership in the Workplace
• BSBLDR413 – Lead effective Workplace Relationships
• BSBXTW401 – Lead and Facilitate a Team

National Food Institute (NFI) is a leading Registered Training Organisation (RTO) with a history of working alongside Tasmanian businesses and helping them meet their skills and training needs. NFI formed in 2007, operates nationally and provides quality workplace training in Food Processing, Warehousing, Transport & Logistics, Driver Operations, Business and Horticulture.

Program Facilitator

The training program will be contextualised to the Tasmanian hospitality and tourism industries and delivered by principal trainer Jess Janz from Savant Australia. Based out of Ulverstone, Tasmania, Jess has completed extensive leadership training, including a Masters in Business Administration. Developing her skill set over ten years of management in the hospitality industry, specialising in leadership and team development. Jess specialises in people-based business training, including team development, leadership, service, communication, change, conflict, and culture.

Course Designed For

This program is designed for people currently in the Tasmanian hospitality and tourism industries who either manage apprentices, trainees or new entrants to the industry. The training is also suited for aspiring supervisors or managers.

Training Locations

Delivered in a blended format, with a mix of online self-paced study, online instructor-led sessions and face to face workshops delivered in three regions of Tasmania (North, North West and South).

Duration and Dates

The program will be delivered over a three month period, commencing in May 2022. Applications are now open and positions on the cohort will be limited to 15 participants in each Tasmanian region (North, North West and South).

Delivered in a blended format, with the majority done via three face to face workshops; with supporting self-paced online study and workplace-based study. Face to face workshops will be delivered in three regions of Tasmania (North, North West and South).

Program Duration: 12 weeks.

Study Time: Participants will be required to attend three days of face to face workshops in their preferred region.
Participants will also need to allow approximately 5 hours per week for self-paced online study, workplace-based study, assignments, and the main project’s completion. The facilitator will also be available for online discussions to support the completion of the project and assignments.

Employer Input: Employer input will be required to assist participants to complete on the job assignments/projects.

National Food Institute (RTO ID 3821) Mentoring in Tourism and Hospitality Training Program will consist of three unit of competency:

BSBLDR411 – Demonstrate leadership in the workplace

  2. Align behaviour with organisational values
  3. Model leadership behaviour

BSBLDR413 – Lead effective workplace relationships

  1. Prepare to lead workplace relationships
  2. Lead workplace relationships
  3. Review leadership

BSBXTW401 – Lead and facilitate a team

  1. Plan team outcomes
  2. Coordinate team and individuals
  3. Support team
  4. Monitor team performance

Application Process

Expression of Interest in the pilot program opens Monday 28 March and closes Friday 29 April 2022. Applications for a position can be made via:

RTO Enrolment and Unique Student Identifier (USI)

Expression of interests will be reviewed and candidates advised if an application is successful. Upon notification, the successful candidate will be requested to complete a National Food Institute (RTO 3821) enrolment form. Course participants are required to hold a Unique Student Identifier (USI). It recommended participants apply for a Unique Student Identifier at www.usi.gov.au prior to completing the National Food Institute (RTO 3821) enrolment form.

Course Fees

 $80 per person*, GST exempt

*The course fee is available at a significantly subsidised rate thanks to the Tasmanian Government through Skills Tasmania, Department of State Growth.

Candidates with successful applications will be requested to make payment of the course fees to secure enrolment in the training program.

Tasmanian residents will receive a Statement of Attainment for successful completion of units of competency, issued by the National Food Institute Registered Training Organisation (RTO ID 3821).

Study materials and activities will be provided to participants via an online Student Portal. Participants will need to supply their laptop, tablet or desktop computer to complete this training. Internet access will also be required to access the Student Portal. A web camera may be required for online facilitator conversations, where applicable.
