Introduction to Bar Operations

Training will provide the essential skills to deliver stellar bar service to every customer. Participants will learn communication skills, how to prepare and serve drinks and ordering techniques.

Course Designed For

This training is designed for candidates with no previous experience seeking to gain employment in bar operations. Also suitable as a refresher to candidates already in the industry; or anyone looking to re-enter after an extended break.

Working in a bar, you will serve a wide variety of people each day. If you enjoy meeting people and have an outgoing personality, becoming a bar attendant could be the right choice for you. A bar attendants duties include serving customers with drinks (and food), monitoring patrons for signs of intoxication, providing alternatives to alcohol, collecting payment and operating the register.

An essential function of your role would be to create a welcoming, friendly atmosphere and talking with customers. What this means is, to be a bar attendant, you should have:

  • good communication skills
  • the ability to prepare and serve a range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks
  • an outgoing personality and a pleasant manner
  • a smart and tidy appearance
  • tact and diplomacy for dealing with demanding customers
  • the ability to take and remember orders
  • numeracy skills for dealing with payments
  • the ability to work well in a team
  • a flexible approach to work

Please note, anyone serving alcohol in Tasmania is required to hold a valid Responsible Serving of Alcohol certification.

Upon successful completion of this training, participants will master the essential bar attendant skills and understand how to provide stellar service to every customer by:

  • Knowing how to prepare for bar service
  • Having the skills to deliver high-quality service
  • Obtained the skills and knowledge to complete close down bar operations
  • Understanding the importance of personal presentation and delivering the Tasmanian experience.

No previous experience or training is required to undertake the training course.

Course Fee: $50 per person including GST

The course fee is subsidised until May 2022. From June 2022 the course fee will return to $980.00 per person including GST.

Enrolment Terms

  1. Payment of course fees (or deposit) is required to confirm enrolment and to hold a position.
  2. Cancellations up to 10 working days before the scheduled date will be accepted without penalty. Cancellations less than 10 working days may be subject to a 100% cancellation fee.
  3. VXT reserves the right to cancel the course 10 working days before the scheduled date if insufficient registrations are received. Any fees paid for cancelled courses will be refunded in full.
